Brennan: Capitol missed this song somehow so the Vee Jay issues were the only US release until 1973. Vee Jay did not have the stereo mix and used the mono version on the stereo LP VJSR 1085 (Thank You Girl is also mono there). US had to wait 1973 and the release of "1962-1966" to have this song in stereo.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regular RM Take Unknown 26 Nov 1962 SS.PPM.07.xx.RM The Beatles Mono mix based on unknown takes (possibly takes 16, 17 & 18).

8. Love Me Do (Lennon/McCartney) 2:20 Regular Mono UK (date unknown)

The Beatles

9. I Saw Her Standing There (Lennon/McCartney) 2:52

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regular RM Take 9 & 12 11 Feb 1963 SS.PPM.01.09/12.RM Used for mono LP & CD "Please Please Me". Also found on mono US "Introducing The Beatles" (Brennan) but missing the count-in (only the "4" remains). It is not sure if the version found on "Introducing .." is the UK mono mix or the UK stereo mix reduced to mono. According to Brennan (again), if it was a reduction from the stereo mix we would hear the volume dropout on verse 3 that is typical on the UK stereo mix.

10. Misery (Lennon/McCartney) 1:49

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regular RM Take 16 11 Feb 1963 SS.PPM.02.16.RM The Beatles Available on "Please Please Me" mono LP/CD. On 20 Feb 1963, George Martin overdubbed 5 piano takes onto take 11. The last and best being take 16.

Released on: UK: Parlophone PMC 1202 Please Please Me 1963. CD: EMI CDP 7 46435 2 Please Please Me 1987.

According to Brennan: Whether Vee Jay uses [this UK mono mix] or is just a mono reduction of [UK stereo mix] seems impossible to determine by listening, since an unedited mono mix would sound the same. It's been suggested that the entire Vee Jay LP is a mono reduction of the stereo mixes (except that the real mono "Please please me" was used for the reissue version of the LP), and it is hard to rule this out, although it's also hard to say why Vee Jay would not have been sent both mono and stereo masters.

Tilleul: for now, and until I have further proofs, we'll consider this version to appear on Vee Jay.

US: Vee Jay VJLP 1062 Introducing 1963.

11. Anna (Go To Him) (Alexander) 2:56

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regular RM Take 1 11 Feb 1963 SS.PPM.04.01.RM The Beatles 4 takes were recorded. Take 1 & 4 were complete. Take 2 & 3 were false starts. All tapes were destroyed. Take 1 was used for the CV.

13. All My Loving (Lennon/McCartney) 2:07

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regular RM Take 14 30 Jul 1963 SS.WTB.03.14.RM The Beatles Released on: UK: Parlophone PMC 1206 With the Beatles 1963. CD: EMI CDP 7 46436 2 With the Beatles 1987. Germany: Odeon O 22 681 single 1963.

[Brennan]: The untrimmed stereo [German/Holland Odeon] opens with 5 taps on a hi-hat, left, and then an intake of breath, right. The untrimmed mono [German Odeon] is probably combined from [German/Holland Odeon stereo], unless we suppose there was also an untrimmed version of [UK 1963 and CD 1987 releases].

[Lewisohn]: (All My Loving) was recorded in just 13 takes (numbered 1-14 but there was no take five), 12-14 being purely overdubs. The master version was an overdub, take 14 onto take 11.
